A follow-up to the New York Times best-selling Deep Dark Fears: a second volume of comics based on people’s quirky, spooky, hilarious, and terrifying fears.
Illustrator, animator, teacher, and comic artist Fran Krause has touched a collective nerve with his wildly popular web comic series–and subsequent New York Times best-selling book–Deep Dark Fears. Here he brings readers more of the creepy, funny, and idiosyncratic fears they love illustrated in comic form–such as the fear that your pets will tell other animals all your embarrassing secrets, or that someone uses your house while you’re not home–as well as two longer comic short-stories about ghosts.
I received this super amazing book from publisher through Netgalley. This does not affect my review.
I did not know anything about this series before I saw this book on Netgalley, which is such a shame. The author of this book owns a tumblr blog of short illustration of people’s deep dark fears. Some of this fears made it to the first book, others made it to this book. This book is very entertaining, fun, albeit a bit paranoid-inducing for me. It explores people’s deepest- sometimes weird- but real fears. For me, it’s really cute to see my fears in this amazing illustration and cheerful color palette, but it’s also add some new fears to my list. Since this is a graphic novel and all I have is praises for this book, I decided to give you a bit of glimpse into the stories within this book, in hope you’re compelled to read it yourself.
We start with this fear that is so damn real for me
Another real-life fear that always got me to close my bedroom window at 6 pm
And this one, which is why I never swim at night
I’ll be a crazy dog lady
Anyone? 👀
Other than discussing our fears, this book also has 2 amazing creepy stories.
Overall? This book is a perfect mix of fun and creepy for the halloween season. Go grab it!
I have never heard of this book but now I want to read it! Although I think I would be half scared and half humoured by it. I actually laughed out loud at the one about the contact lenses and the campfire. But the one with the painting/window was CREEPY.
The illustrations are really cute, which is a big bonus. I am a self proclaimed art snob. I can’t do graphic novels if I don’t like the art!
I’m glad you liked this one, Tasya, and thanks for putting it on my radar 😀
