Top 5 Wednesday #28: Characters On My Naughty List

Welcome to another edition of Top 5 Wednesday, which is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Samantha and Lainey! You can check the group here for more discussions and topic.

Today’s topic will be about characters on my naughty or nice list. I choose the naughty one, because 2017 has been a crappy reading year and it’s hard for me to find characters that worth a present for me. Meanwhile, I have tons that I would like to see on my naughty list. Let’s jump into it.

Severus Snape – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

If we’re talking about Harry Potter, there’s always someone very annoying that the whole world hated her more than the main villain of the series. You know, certain someone that has a toad-like appearance, wears all things pink and collect kitten plates. But I have only read Socerer’s Stone this year so that person is out of the question. Instead, we got Severus Snape. Say what you want, but because you were rejected and had a terrible childhood doesn’t mean you can go around torment students you supposed to teach and protect.

Camilla del Valle – The Go Between by Veronica Chambers

Let’s see… she’s the daughter of the most famous actress in Mexico, yet when she moved to the U.S. and get into a private school, she pretends to be poor. Her friends thought of her as a poor scholarship mexican kid, complete with maid-as-mother and other stereotypes, yet Cami never try to correct them and instead plays along with them “to teach them a lesson.” In fact, she did it because she liked the attention and that is why she’s pretty high on my list.

All the Girls from One for Sorrow by Mary Downing Hahn

I know this book is supposedly about lesson on why bullying is bad, but the bullying in this book went waaaayyy over the line. If I am the girl bullied in this book, I’ll come back to haunt my bullies too.

Liliana – Reawakened by Coleen Houck

She can’t stop mentioning about her designer clothes and how rich yet trapped she is, as well as how hot the love interest is. Even though she managed to resist him, after 5 pages or so she’s convinced he is her soulmate.

Zephyr Mourning – Promise of Shadows by Justina Ireland

Zephyr is a classic case of dissapointment for me: she started out so well, being badass and powerful, kicking and escaping from Tartarus. Then she met her crush, Talon, and can’t think anything to save her life except his lips. I hate books like this because it implies like girls can’t think about anything other than boys, like, excuse you???????

Disclaimer: Most of the characters on this list are girls, something I realized after finish making this list. Not that I hate girls or promote girls vs girls feud, it’s just 99% of the books I read this year has female protagonist, so I spend a lot of time in their head.

Who’s the most unlikeable character you read this year?

  1. Oooh yes to Severus Snape. The fact that he was Neville’s BIGGEST fear and he tormented his students because he couldn’t get a girl to like him is and will forever be ridiculous. Awesome answers!

    1. Exactly! Why being so petty and how bad of a teacher you’d be if you are someone’s boggarts when there are other things like Dementor and Voldemort??? Snape must be really horrible because he was Neville’s Boggart, even though there’s Bellatrix, the person who tortured his parents…

  2. Totally agree on Snape. I don’t know how people can make a hero out of him as I had no sympathy for him at all by the end. He was just a creep in my opinion.
