Top 5 Wednesday #33: SF/F in Other Media

t5w

Welcome to another top 5 friday wednesday! Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Samantha and Lainey! You can check the group here for more discussions and topic.

This week’s topic is favorite science fiction and fantasy in other media. The reason I posted this late is because I almost didn’t want to do this topic, as I feel I didn’t do enough sci-fi in books, let alone in other media. I mean, I get that this week’s topic is science fiction AND fantasy, but I don’t want to do the latter topic as I feel it will be too easy. After reading other people’s answer, I realize that I DO watch a lot of scifi movies. Without further ado, here are my favorite science fiction in other media!

Inception

Christopher Nolan is one of my all time favorite director. His movies are always such a thrill to watch, but there are always more than meets the eye. Inception is no exception, and this is my favorite movie of his, along with The Dark Knight trilogy. I love the concept and the idea, but the execution totally blew me away. I enjoyed ever moment of this movie and every time I do a rewatch, there’s always something new to discover from this movie.

Star Wars: Rogue One

The Last Jedi exceeded my expectations last december (the red room scene!!!!) but Rogue One took the prize. I never been a Star Wars fan (sue me) so I didn’t expect much when I watched this with my friends. But gosh… IT’S AMAZING. The best SFF movie out there, I think. The plot is exhilarating, the visual is pleasing, and the ending totally broke my heart. I’m still awed by it.

The Avengers

This movie will never gets old, second best in MCU after The Winter Soldier. I mean, Black Panther and Ragnarok are good, but I always watch MCU with high-action expectations, and tbh, they didn’t have a lot in their respective movies.

Pacific Rim

I used to be someone who loved Transformers, but after the third movie, it became obvious they were milking it without any concrete plot into the future. Then Pacific Rim came. I admit I wasn’t really interested at first, but when I do watched it, I was very immersed in the world. I think the plot and the acting are superb and the action was really fun! I have no intention, however, to watch Uprising.

Welcome to Night Vale

This one is a podcast! This podcast is a fictional radio show from the fictional Desert Town. Various supernatural and natural shenangigans happened in this town; from water shortage, imposing obelisk, to angel visits. I love the voice of Cecil, it’s really calming for me and and a fun background noise while I’m studying!

What’s your favorite SFF outside from books?

  1. I’m a huge Star Wars nerd! I only got into it in the last year or two but in that time I watched the originals, the prequels, and the new movies and loved them all (okay maybe less so the prequels). Rouge One was definitely a heartbreaker and I cried. But I also cried in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi so maybe I’m just too sensitive.

Welcome to Night Vale is also incredible. I adore it in all of its weirdness!

  2. I was blown away by Inception! What an amazing movie. Rogue One was great as well…perhaps my favourite out of the Star Wars franchise. It was so sad 😦

I’ve heard of the Night Vale but never listened to it. I will now!

    1. yeah I was initially confused about Marvel movies too as they can fall easily into fantasy category, but Tony is an inventor, Bruce and Jane are scientists, Dr. Strange is well… a doctor, and Wakanda is VERY futuristic, so I assume any movies with them are scifi 😀
