May’s topic is basically a freebie: we are all free to choose topics from past T5W prompts. I’m so happy as there are so many amazing topics I missed out in the past as I was late to the T5W party, and the first one is from February 25th, 2015: best character development.
Alex Karev (Grey’s Anatomy)
Hands down the best character development in all history of tv shows. He started out as this reckless bad boy of a doctor, with sharp tongue and devil-may-care attitude. But throughout the show (can’t get into details, I missed a huge chunk of the middle seasons) he became a nicer person, took his career more seriously, and even became a pediatrician and ready to settle down! He became Meredith’s BFF after Cristina leaves and honestly I’m living for their friendship.
Tony Stark (MCU)
In honor of Infinity War, I need to put the man who started it all here. Tony started out as this jackass playboy billionaire, who cares about no one and anything. But being kidnapped and seeing someone laid down his life for him make him strives to be a better person (he stopped producing his weapons asap) and he continued to do so. He even sacrificed his life in the process, got anxiety attack, yet he keeps trying to protect earth as best as he could.
While we are here, I do not agree with Tony’s view on Sokovia Accords, but STEVE HAS NO RIGHT TO HURT TONY WHEN IT COMES TO THE SECOND ARC OF CIVIL WAR.
Juliette Ferrars (Shatter Me)
At the beginning of Shatter Me, she was locked up in an abandoned building with no human contact for I forget how many days (anyone?). Her power was dangerous and deadly, and she spent those days alone and scared of herself and her power and the world. Even after she was released, she was afraid of herself
and made worse by Warner manipulating her. But as the series progressed, she came out of her shell and started to accept herself and her power. She even managed to practice her power and use it to bring down the Reestablishment! Her growth was immense and I felt so proud reading her journey.
Neville Longbottom (Harry Potter)
Of course when talking about character development we have to mention Neville Longbottom. Fron being bullied, to being a hero, Neville is one of the best character development in book history. He was awkward, forgetful, and scared boy at the beginning of the series, but even then he already showed his inner bravery by standing up to the golden trio when they tried to save the sorcerer’s stone. He joined Dumbledore’s Army in the fifth year, supporting Harry while knowing that he could be expelled for it, and even followed Harry to the battle of the Department of Mystery, even when his dueling skills weren’t as good as the others. After that, he became one of Harry’s most loyal supporter and inner circle, even leading the students resistance in the seventh year. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he destroyed Voldemort’s latest hocrux, thus enabling his death.
Now, if that’s not a character development, then I don’t know what is.
I’m starting season 8! Okay, so Castiel was an angel (is he still an angel in the current season?) that brought Dean back to life. At first he was detached with human and only cared about Dean as he was
his Dean key to winning the apocalypse. But the more time he spent with Dean the Winchesters, and human in general, he became more… human. He emphatize with them and even got on their side. Because of this, he has gone through a lot of highs and lows, and he took it pretty hard on himself. He has a journey, for the better or worse.
HONORARY MENTION: Zuko (Avatar: The Legend of Aang)
Is there any characters I miss? Which character do you think have the best character development?
