Screen Rambles: May

Screen

Welcome to another edition of screen rambles! Screen rambles is a monthly features- or at least, I tried to make it monthly- where I just rambling about the things I watched in the previous month.

May has been a pretty good watching month! I’m moving forward with my SPN rewatch and I’ve watched some movies I’ve been dying to watch since forever. So without further ado, here are the things I watched in May!

Supernatural Season 8 {🌟🌟}

This… is one of the meh seasons. I skipped the first half of the season (like 18 episodes…) because I’ve watched it before so I went through this one pretty quick. I really did not like the purgatory storyline, but I was warming up to Benny. I love the whole tablet storyline, the angel vs demon tablets. And while I love Castiel trying to fix things up like he always do, I feel ambivalent towards the trial. I…. barely cared about that??? My favorite episode from the season is definitely “What’s Up Tiger Mommy?” (8×02), “LARP and the Real Girl” (8×11) and “Sacrifice” (8×23). The end sequence was beautiful (despite the severity of the situation) and Castiel is in more mess than he ever was. I’m curious on what will happen next!

Also, can we talk about how under appreciated Benny is?? I was hoping he’d be part of the team!

Masquerade {🌟🌟🌟🌟}

The story is taken from the missing journal during the Joseon era. In Korea’s Joseon era, each day was kept on records and interestingly, there are 15 days missing during his era. Usually, even if the king does not want things to be recorded, the book keeper will still write it and end the records with some wording. But this one? Zilch. Nada.

Since no one knows what happened, Masquerade takes some liberty with the story. After several assassination attempts, the king find someone to act as his stand-in during the night. Unfortunately, he did get poisoned and incapacitated, so the peasant has to act as the king for the period.

Lee Byung Hoon is an amazing actor. He plays double role in this movie, as the king and his stand in, but you can see the difference. From the way each of them move, talks… even their stare. I love the plot and his relationship with eunuch Jo, chief secretary, Sa-Wol, and captain Do. I also love the costume design for the queen consort, it’s so simple and different from other Joseon queens, but it manages to shine her light.

My complain is just it’s too short for such a complex story. As the result, all the plot points are not fleshed out. What did the queen’s brother actually did? What happened between the queen and the king? The queen also not involved in the plot and intrigue as much as I liked, she only broods and cried in this movie.

Zootopia {🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟}

Yes folks, I am late to the party. If I have a boyfriend, he better calls me carrot.

I did not expect to love this movie as much as I did! It was amazing, the animation and the plot really blew me away. Judy is soooo cute and Nick, well, be my partner pleaseeee.Β  Their dynamic works really well! Despite the cheery appearance, this movie has a pretty serious undertone, especially about prejudice and opportunity. Not every one is what it seems, but in this world, unfortunately what they are often defines the person. I’m really happy with this movie and can’t wait to do a catch up session with all the Disney movie I missed!

Jurassic Park {🌟🌟🌟🌟.5}

Initially, I have no interest to watch this. With finals looming in 3 days (at that time), I’d rather spending my time studying. But there was only me and my dad at that time, he wanted to watch the movie since the afternoon and I chose Law and Order SVU instead. So I figure I’d spend the night watching this movie with him. I’m also curious why so many people since to like this movie.

I watched Jurassic World, I wasn’t really impressed. BUT, I surprisingly really liked this one! It’s so science-y and I understand the science aspect of cloning and shits due to my field of study. It’s interesting to judge and think how the technology is still not as advanced even until now. But it’s also interesting to see how unique the idea was at its time, and how it’s still alluring even until now.

The movie itself is really well directed! The setting is beautiful, Jurassic Park is definitely someone I wouldn’t want to visit due to the danger it posses but at the same time, IT’S SO COOL. The CGI isn’t as good as now obviously, but it doesn’t distract the movie at all! It’s so suspenseful, especially when they were first attacked in the cars.

ALSO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT YOUNG JEFF GOLDBLUM IN THAT BLACK OPEN SHIRT???

  1. Yes I love Zootopia and Jurassic Park! It’s great to see that you enjoyed both of them. πŸ™‚ Jeff Goldblum…damn. I am planning on seeing Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom this month, but I’m keeping my expectations low after reading some reviews. I’m for sure also going to see Incredibles 2, but I don’t know when. Other than that, I don’t have any movies I am definitely going to watch!
