Can you believe we’re almost halfway through 2019??? Am I the only one that feels like the year is flying by? I have so many books I wanted to read and shows I wanted to watch, but suddenly we’re already at the middle of the year.
So yeah, I’m lowkey freaking out. What’s a better way to do it than joining a book tag about it?? I saw a lot of people doing it on my feed, so I figure I’ll join in on the fun. The last blog I read that posted about this tag was Merline @ Merline Reads, so I’m linking up to her blog!
Best book so far you’ve read in 2019
Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
Hands down, THE best book I’ve read this year. The epic conclusion to my all time favorite series, I devoured this book in one/two sittings. ALL THE FEELS.
Best sequel so far you’ve read in 2019
Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
The Kingdom by Jess Rothernberg and The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
The Tyrant’s Tomb by Rick Riordan
Biggest disappointment
Tbh this year IS a year of disappointment for me in terms of reading. The Antidote, Romanov, Nocturna, The Cold is in Her Bones… the list goes on and on. But King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo definitely takes the cake. It was long and convoluted, and for a book about Nikolai, it sure doesn’t focus on him.
Biggest surprise
If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka
It unexpectedly felt very personal for me, but it also has cute banter and amazing characters!
Favorite new to you or debut author
Laura Purcell
I’ve been having her book, The Silent Companions, on my TBR for a while now. I recently got approved on her newest book, The Poison Thread (being renamed into The Corset) and let’s just say, it’s such a fantastic read that I don’t think I can wait until the halloween season to read TSC!
Newest fictional crush
If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka
I’d put Morozko here but he’s not exactly a new crush, so. Brendan is so cute though, he deserves this title!
Newest favorite character
If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka
Again, the story just felt so personal to me that I can see myself in Cameron. But more than that, she has this amazing growth throughout the story that I can’t help but cheer for her!
Book that made you cry
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
It’s just a tragic and sad story about real-life conflict that’s still going on until now.
Book that made you happy
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
Look, I’d be lying if I say I was excited for the release of this book. I was not. I feel like the 2nd book wrapped the story pretty nicely and we don’t need another book. Well, let it be know that I was wrong, this book is a happy place I didn’t know I needed!
Favorite book to film adaptation
Can I say Avengers: Endgame?? That movie just destroyed me!
Favorite post you’ve done this year
Honestly, blogging this year has been such a blur as I’ve been VERY busy that I barely had time to sit and write any posts. I don’t even remember what I’ve posted this year 😅 After a look through though, I can say Does Unrelateable Representation Equals to Bad Representation? and Top 5 Wednesday #51: Books I’ve Read Because of My Mom are my favorite posts this year!
Most beautiful book you’ve got this year
This gorgeous edition of The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne by Roads publishing. Their classics editions are gorgeous, I’m determined to collect them all.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Yep, I still haven’t read them.
How’s your reading looking so far? Are you on track? Are you behind? What are some books you need to read before the year ends?
I was planning on reading The Girl in the Tower and Winter of the Witch before spring hit but time got away from me! So I’m aiming for November-December of this year. It just doesn’t seem right to read the series when it’s not winter (for the first time, at least). 😀
And I’ve had Silent Companions on my TBR for a while now too! Glad to hear you loved The Corset!
And my blogging/reading pace has also been kind of off. Whenever I think I’m getting back into the groove again, health troubles hit or I get super busy at work and it’s back down to zero again. I hope the second half of 2019 goes a little better for both of us! ❤

I know right? It’s a sign that Katherine Arden writes the book in a perfect way, we just can’t stop associating the series with winter ❤ Yeah, I notice a lot of bloggers that start around the same time as I did struggle this year- hopefully it will get better for us soon!

Yep, I’m so happy to see a lot of people loved it as much as I did. And I hope you will too when you read it!
ENDGAME DESTROYED ME TOOO! It was such an emotional and exhilarating experience. I’m sad to see an era end, but I’m also excited for the future!

I’m sorry King of Scars didn’t live up to your expectations! I’ve been putting it off for a while now until it comes out in paperback and when I have a chance to re-read all of the other Grisha books first. I’ve heard a range of responses, so I think I’m going to go in with no expectations and see what comes of it.
I also put Avengers Endgame on my list as best adaptation, so I say it’s allowed! Great post!
