Yeap, ATLA completely took over my life in July, I can’t stop reading the comics and fanfictions! I won’t do any reviews on this blog, but the links will direct you to my goodreads review. Overall, the comics have been pretty solid and great material for new season/special episodes! I love seeing the gaang settling into their role (as always, Zuko is the most noticable- he’s very gaunt and stressed in The Promise but really happy in Smoke and Shadow 🥺) and seeing the seeds of modern progress as we saw in LoK!

I reached my Goodreads reading goal of 50 books this month! It’s lower goal than what I set for myself compared to the past years, but I thought I wouldn’t have much reading time this year with thesis and (planned) job hunting. I ended up with having a lot of time with quarantine happening and also read more graphic novels this year, so I ended up reading more! TEA DRAGON TAPESTRY was my 50th book this year and it’s such a perfect ending for this reading year with how wholesome and adorable it was 🥺💕

So I decided to participate in Noura @ The Perks of Being Noura’s Diversify That Shelf Readathon and I’m excited because the prompts are all amazing! You can check out the announcement post here, but here are my TBR:

Mirage Readathon (7)

  1. WHERE WE GO FROM HERE by Lucas Rocha {eARC} → different culture than mine (set in Brazil), diverse contemporary (LGBTQ+ and HIV representation)
  2. CHARMING AS A VERB by Ben Philippe  {eARC} → by a Black author, POC on the cover (Black), ownvoices
  3. THE BONE WITCH by Rin Chupeco {eARC} → book by AOC I’ve wanted to read for a while, random picks

So yeah I plan to read only 3 books that could cover as much squares as possible 😂 I’m trying to read THE VANISHING HALF,  and DARIUS THE GREAT IS NOT OKAY for the readathon too, but we’ll see.

And guess what? I found an ATLA-themed readathon so obviously, I’m participating! It’s called Avatar: The Last Pageturner readathon and it is hosted by KJ Reads PagesPositive WriterBen Reads Books, and Kaela Clifton. You can find the announcement tweet here.

This is a very last minute decision so this TBR are not really set in stone and might change. I also couldn’t find any YA books by indigenous author so if you have any recommendations, feel free to share it with me!

Fingers crossed I won’t fall into reading slump due to the amount of books and readathons I’m joining this month 😅

life update

So as I mentioned earlier, ATLA completely took over my life in July 😂 It feels like I’m back being 7, back in the fandom and having my crush at Zuko came back with a vengeance (now we have Suki too) 😂 I’ve read sooo many fanfictions it’s not even funny how obsessed I was 🙈

I think part of the reason why I was obsessed was me also running away from what’s happening? The first half of the month was not good: a lot of my friends finished their thesis defense and many of them also had online graduations. While I’m really happy for them, it also made me feel anxious about my own thesis and graduation. So yeah, I ~escaped~ to atla world at the first half of the month and it helped. Another thing that helped beside ATLA was Reading Rush, which despite its flaws, helped me feeling better and focused my attention elsewhere. Maybe that’s why what happened hits me really hard.

The rest of the month was pretty quiet, not much happened since I’m still home. Highlight of the month would be Folklore and The Umbrella Academy season 2. I’ll talk about TUA in my July screen rambles, but in general I love the plot and pacing better but I find the romance and character development lacking. As for Folklore, I admit it’s not really my vibe- it’s been a while since I listened to folk genre but it’s very ~calming~. It took me a few listen to appreciate the album as a whole, but my favorite are the last great american dynasty and mirrorball!

  1. 15 books in a month is amazing!!! (also I see that you rated QON higher than TWK and I just have to say… it’s great to see QON get the appreciation It Deserves) Both reading challenges look so interesting, so I wish you good luck with that! Hope you have a good August!

  2. Congratulations on such a fantastic reading month! I’ve got to admit, I’ve actually never seen or read anything of ATLA, but I’m so thrilled to hear that it was a little escape for you this month to avoid our strange little world for a while. And a big congratulations on hitting your yearly reading goal – that’s a great accomplishment!

And thank you so much for mentioning my post; it means the world to me! 💛

    Happy August!

  3. hahah, as soon as i saw the amount of avatar the last airbender on your “recently reads” i hoped you’d be taking part in the readathon! even though i won’t be participating and i honestly know nothing about avatar, i am always surprised by how cool this readathon’s TBRs are and that people can find one book to fit all the five prompts! hahah it’s so powerful

hope you love charming as a verb! i thought the premise sounded like total rom-com material, i am excited to read this one when it comes out in september.

i felt the same way about folklore but i loved mirrorball too! it’s definitely one of my favorite tracks in the album, along with august & seven, probably because they’re the least folk-ish ones, hahah. hope you have an amazing august, tasya!

  4. Wow, you really did read a lot! With my summer classes I only read three books: Chain of Gold, Rebecca, and The 21 Balloons. Rebecca was by far my favorite. Also, thank you so much for mentioning my post about my favorite female authors! That was so fun to write. ATLA also took over my month. I was OBSESSED with it as a kid and I still am, honestly. Apparently TLOK is also coming to US Netflix this month. Awesome post!
