October Wrap Up & November TBR // I’m closing a chapter of my life 👩‍🎓

Hi everyone! How are you? It’s two months yet until 2021 and I don’t know whether I’m excited or dreading what’s yet to come since it seems like each month brings a lot of surprises.

October was a roller coaster of emotions- the highest highs and quite low moments. I submitted my thesis, got my defense date, studied in high anticipated, passed my defense (!!!) and now it’s the job hunting process. It’s been quite an eventful month. Outside of my personal life, Trump got COVID, there have been huge demonstrations in my country (Indonesia), Thailand, as well as Nigeria. You can read more on the issues, donate, and sign petitions by clicking on the links provided.

  1. 1789: TWELVE AUTHORS EXPLORE A YEAR OF REBELION, REVOLUTION AND CHANGE by Marc Aronson {eARC} // ✰✰✰✰
  2. EMBASSY OF THE DEAD by Will Mabbitt {eARC} // ✰✰✰.5
  3. THE VANISHING HALF by Brit Bennett {eARC} // ✰✰✰✰
  4. THE WICKED DEEP by Shea Earnshaw // ✰✰✰.5
  5. LIGHT AS A FEATHER by Zoe Aarsen {RivetedLit} // ✰✰✰
  6. LEAN IN FOR GRADUATES by Sheryl Sandberg // ✰✰✰✰

I don’t know what I would read on November since I don’t feel like scheduling any books? I just want to get to an eARC as well as finishing some series, so these are the books I’ll probably read.

  1. A NEON DARKNESS by Lauren Shippen {eARC}
  2. MUSE OF NIGHTMARES by Laini Taylor
  3. THE TOWER OF NERO by Rick Riordan
  4. DECK OF OMENS by Christine Lynn Herman

So…. in case you’ve missed it….

I PASSED MY DEFENSE!!!

It was a relief to be finally done with my defense and thesis in general, it’s been drawn out from the initial date in August to October due to the pandemic. I had a great day and weekend, it was a memorable time indeed 💖

This also means that I have started my job search and so far… it’s been disheartening 😭 I know finding a job is hard, but I didn’t expect it to be this hard. Everyone wants an applicant who has experience and as a fresh graduate, I don’t have them. Not to mention many of the applications process are automated now that I didn’t have point of contact to ask for feedback 😭 I’m someone who is always on the go, always have a plan on “the next step” so while COVID forced me to slow down, there was thesis to work on. But now? I felt really unmoored and it stressed me out. I’ve been doing online courses but I really want to get a job soon.

I’ve been really into k-pop this month. Remember last month I mentioned I was enjoying SuperM’s Tiger Inside? This month I listened to their Super One album and I love it! My favorite is definitely Wish You Were Here (it has such a chill summer vibe) and Big Chance (it has such a rom-com ending scene soundtrack??? I could imagine our main characters kissing with this song as its bgm). If you love Jonas Blue’s Perfect Stranger, chances are you’re going to love Big Chance. Honestly the tracks are very diverse, ranging from raps to ballads, I wish their title tracks weren’t all rap-heavy (Tiger Inside, One, and 100) because they did not showcase the range this album has!

I’m also dipping my toes to BTS, Eric Nam, Kang Daniel, NCT, and Shinee…. I’ll update you next month if I fell deep into any groups!

Last but not least… The U.S. election. You might think that I have no right to talk about this since I am not American, and while it might be true, I feel like I have to. The thing about the U.S. is, whether we like it or not, it’s like the center of the world. Everything happening there has impact for the rest of the world, from economics policy, stock market values, to the types of leaders elected. And since the U.S. tend is heavily involved in many political activities across the world too, so the leaders you elected, the partnerships you formed and the bridges you burned truly matters. So please please please, go vote!!!!

Not a lot of post this month because I was busy preparing for defense and then got into a reading mood, but I’m really happy with what I came up with!

How was October for you?

  2. Congrats on your defense! And good luck on your job search – sending you much good vibes as job hunting is especially hard in these times. I definitely get the feeling of always being on the go and having a plan – after graduating (and during all this too), I just felt… unanchored and stressed because YES everyone wants graduates with experience but I’m just sitting here like “lol I have none really.” I have faith you’ll find one! ❤️

OMG I LOVE SuperM’s new album! My favorites are in the group, haha. If you ever need recs, feel free to ask away! I highly recommend SHINee and EXO, along with many others.
