4 Reasons I want to read these books before 2021 ends

We’re almost at the last quarter of the month and while I’ve read some of the books at my TBR, it also felt like I haven’t been making a dent at my TBR. Me being a mood reader doesn’t really help either as it really feels like I keep reaching for other books instead of the ones I really want to read 😒

Today I’m going to share with you some of the books I want to finish before the year ends. However, since I have a bad track record with making lists on my blog (it’s like a jinx, here’s a proof if you need it) I decided to add some incentives by adding the reason why I should read them instead of stalling 🤡

Because I need to finish the series

So there are three series I want to finish this year. The fact that I’ve dragged The Tensorate series for several years despite it being a novella is ridiculous. I really enjoyed being in the world, but I need to read The Descent of Monsters already. With Queen of Air and Darkness, it’s ridiculously long that I just don’t want to read it but I also don’t want to leave it unfinished as it is a gateway for the other books in the new series. And finally, I’ve finished TPW and TDR this month but I want to take a break before reading The Burning God as this series is really dark. Out of the three books in this category, TDR is definitely the priority for me as I really want to see how the series ends!

Because of ~the vibes~

Yes we only have 2 seasons here, but I can’t help but feeling excited for the colder weather and reading some ~cozy~ fall books and retellings. An Enchantment of Ravens is the first one that popped up in my mind, since a lot of people mentioned it’s perfect for fall. I don’t know why, but I’d love to be surprised! The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding has been on my TBR since forever; I actually started it and really enjoyed it, but put it down since I wasn’t in the mood. I’m really determined to finally get to it this year. And finally, what’s more fall-ish than some boarding school mystery??? Truly Devious has been receiving all the glowing reviews and it really intrigues me.

Near the end of the year, I tend to gravitate towards retellings or books with wintry vibes, ever since I read the Winternight trilogy. Uprooted is also one of the books that have been on my TBR and one that I always meant to read at the end of the year. Shea Earnshaw’s The Wicked Deep was an okay read for me, but it was really atmospheric so I’m looking forward to read Winterwood! And finally, some holiday romance since I really miss the holiday festivities 🥺 10 Blind Dates has has a huge family, blind dates, and some cute romance so I think it will be a perfect choice!

Because it’s short

This Is How You Lose the Time War is the book I just found this year (a few months ago) but it’s quickly climbing to the top of my TBR! It’s about two rivaling secret agents who began corresponding and eventually, fell in love. It has enemies to lovers on top of a lot of angst and yearning. Plus it’s a novella, so it will be quite a quick read from when I need something short and painful sweet.

Because I’ll love it

My Lady Jane has all the elements of a “5 star rating”: historical fiction, magic, and hilarious narrator. So why do I keep reaching for other books instead of reading this one? I don’t know, but I’m determined to read it this year to end my curiosity!

Have you read any of these books? Do you have any books you want to read before the year ends?

  1. This is such a great idea! I love reflecting on my TBR and thinking about what books I want to get to soon. You NEED to read The Burning God, but very wise choice to wait a little – it’s brutal and dark and it made me sob hysterically, but it was such a great conclusion. An Enchantment of Ravens is LOVELY. It always receives mixed reviews, so I’m curious to see your thoughts, but I love the vibe of the book and the characters are my BABIES.

Good luck with your goals for the rest of the year!

  2. Ah I love this! I think having a reason for wanting to read a book will make you more likely- in fact, I am going to try this myself! I have read a few of these! My Lady Jane was fun, I liked Time War (though there were a few things that confused me, I still really liked it!), Uprooted and Winterwood didn’t really work for me, but I know lots of people love them so hopefully you will too! I need to finish (or start, or catch up on) like, every series ever written so I feel you there, too!

  5. There are so many books on here that I want to read/reread! Omg when you finish TBG please let me know what you think – I read it in a blur when it came out so I’ve been meaning to get back and reread it. Every time winter rolls around I just stare at my copy of Uprooted, maybe this is the year to finally pick it up for another read because the ~atmosphere vibes~ are simply immaculate!
