Hi everyone! It’s November 12th which means it’s Red Taylor’s Version day! 🥳❤
Red is honestly my favorite Taylor’s album, not only aesthetically and how cozy the whole album was, but also how beautiful is lyrically. My love for the album only grows as I get older as I feel like it really captures the feeling of being in your early 20s, something that I’m currently experiencing 🥺
To celebrate Red TV, I’m doing the Taylor Swift Album Challenge which I saw from Wordy and Whimsical blog earlier this year! I hope you guys enjoy this post and have an amazing day listening to Red TV! ❤
Taylor Swift: An author’s debut book
Ahhh Taylor Swift. While it wasn’t my favorite, it certainly captures the high and lows of high school really well especially the first years! My favorite song from this album is Should’ve Said No, with A Place in this World being a close second.
My pick for this prompt is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. Despite being a debut, this book deserves all the hype and love because it’s just flawless! I love the writing, the plot, the pacing, the dialogue, and most importantly, the themes of family and culture and being true to yourself 🥺
Fearless: A book that scared you
For me, this is the album that started it all. Love Story was the first song from Taylor that I’ve ever heard and will always have a special place in my heart. Throughout the years and multiple listens, my favorite always change depending of the state I am while listening. It just captures the nostalgic feelings of high school really well, from first love to taking chances and just being young in general.
Contrary to the warm and fuzzy feeling Fearless the album induced, Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall is fear inducing. I talked about this book a lot on my blog since it’s literally the creepiest books I’ve ever read; from the suspense to the darkness of the atmosphere to the wrongness of it all… Even thinking about it gave me goosebumps!
Speak Now: A book with great dialogue
While Speak Now isn’t a favorite of mine (lol), I do think it’s an underrated album! Back to December, Ours, and Haunted are some of my favorite songs and they are all from this album.
The first book that came in mind with this prompt was The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh as the writing is just gorgeous and it has sooo many quotes I tab.
“What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.
“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.
“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”
Red: A book with red on the cover or in the title
Ah yes, the legendary Red and the whole reason this post is being written today. Not only the music and lyrics are on point, I really love the aesthetics of this era! Both the B sides and the main tracks are perfect- the whole album was just perfect, really. My favorite are State of Grace, The Lucky One, and of course, Red. With that being said, I’m bracing myself for the 10 minute version of All Too Well!
For this prompt, I’m going to choose These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. Not only the cover is gorgeous and contains the color red, I feel like story of Roma and Juliette fits the songs from this album.
1989: A book published the year you were born
Ahh my favorite! This album was just perfection in terms of telling a “celebrity” love story and how Taylor mock her haters through Blank Space and Shake It Off 💙 It’s really hard to choose a favorite, but some of them are Style, Wildest Dreams, and I Know Places.
I was born in 1998 and the only book released this year that I’ve read is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. On the contrary to 1989, CoS is actually my least favorite HP book 😬
Reputation: A book that lived up to its hype
Reputation was a pretty divisive album, but personally I loved it! I love how different the tone is from her other albums, how it captures her anger and bitterness, but also her worries and happiness about her romance. It was sooo good and one of my most repeated album on rotations. My favorite tracks are Ready for It?, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, and Delicate.
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling is a recently released book that really worth the hype! Set during halloween in a magical witchy town, it has cozy atmosphere with witty dialogues, fun banter, and sizzling second chance romance between the main characters. I can see why so many people loved it!
Lover: A favorite romance or book with a romantic subplot
Lover was really lovely to listen, especially its main title track. This is the album that gave me my all time favorite songs, Cornelia Street and Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince! 💗
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is a book that I read earlier this year and quickly became my all time favorite romance book! Similar with the Ex Hex, it has witty dialogues, fun banter, and sizzling romance- except this time, it’s the enemies to lovers fake relationship trope! Plus it’s set in Hawaii, so it’s full of things I know I’m going to love!
Folklore: A fairy tale, folktale, or myth retelling
Folklore took a while for me to fall in love with, since the songs were slower and something I wasn’t in the mood with, with the stagnation of the pandemic routine. However, I eventually got to appreciate the calmness and the narrative of the album. My favorites are The Last Great American Dynasty, Exile, and Mirrorball.
For this prompt, I can’t resist to pick The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden. One of my all time favorite series, this book retells various Russian folktale with atmospheric wintry fairytale setting and epic historical battles. It’s also on the slower side in terms of pacing, which fits well with Folklore!
Evermore: A book you could read for the rest of your life
This is honestly the only Taylor’s album I couldn’t get into 😅 I enjoyed No Body, No Crime and Willow, but other than that none of the tracks are really memorable to me tbh.
For this final answer, I’m going to choose Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. There’s just something so special and magical about this series- maybe because I have always love Greek mythology, maybe it’s because of the school memories associated with it, or maybe because I feel like I’m growing with Percy as each book was released. Either way, this book will always hold a special place and one I could read for the rest of my life!
