April Wrap Up & May TBR ๐ŸŒผ

Another month has ended and with it, we’re getting closer to the halfway mark of 2022! ๐Ÿ˜จ

April was a surprisingly great month- work and life have been amazing, I talked with a lot of friends, I went out, but also I got back into reading and watching stuff! While work most definitely didn’t ease up, for some reason this month I really felt like reading and watching movies so that’s what I’ve been doing a lot. We’re currently having a week-long holiday for Eid so I’m going to take this advantage to read and watch even more ๐Ÿ˜„

  1. BOYS I KNOW by Anna Gracia {e-ARC} // ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
  2. THE QUEEN OF THE TILES by Hanna Alkaf {e-ARC} // ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ.5
  3. BOYS OF SUMMER by Jessica Brody // ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
  4. HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE by Dale Carnegie // ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
  5. NOCTURNAL by wilderpoetry // unrated
  6. CAT’S CAFE: A COMICS COLLECTION by Matt Tarpley // ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
  7. BAD BLOOD: SECRETS AND LIES IN A SILICON VALLEY STARTUP by John Carreyrou // ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

7 books is a lot and my personal record in a while- I don’t think I’ve read that much in a month since 2020? Even better, I finished all this before the holiday kicks in and I enjoyed most of them, so it’s a fantastic reading month!

I think having 2 ARCs due in April really helps with my reading motivation. While I didn’t really enjoy BOYS I KNOW, I had such a great time with QUEEN OF THE TILES that I stayed up all night and ended up feeling like a zombie the next day ๐Ÿ˜… With the reading strike still high, I ended up also finishing the next 2 books that has been my current read for months. BOYS OF SUMMER was from last year and while I struggled with the dated writing, it has great friendship and small beach town setting that I liked. HOW TO WIN FRIENDS is one of the most recommended books and after finishing it, I can see why. I don’t think it’s still applicable to the modern times due to social media and I don’t agree with all the advice, but I do see why it could make you very likeable in social settings.

I decided that I want to read something light, so I picked up NOCTURNALS. As always, poetry is a very subjective field so I decided to leave the book unrated. That being said, while some pieces really resonates with me, most of them were just not. Then I picked up CAT’S CAFE as I want to read something comforting and it really gives me all the fuzzies! It reminds me of The Tea Dragon Society so if you love that series, you should pick up Cat’s Cafe. Finally, I picked BAD BLOOD which has been on my TBR since it was released and I devoured the book. I finished it in 2.5 days, a personal record for me in reading non-fiction book. It was not exactly explosive, but it’s just so fascinating to see Elizabeth charms her way into some very high profile people and none of them ever questions her claims or delays. It’s like the Fyre fest for investors with how obviously over promising she was- I can’t believe even some people who worked in science, who should look at evidence first before giving any decision, also got fooled! ๐Ÿ˜’

  1. SO THIS IS EVER AFTER by FT Lukens (55% – audiobook)
  2. SIREN QUEEN by Nghi Vo {e-ARC}
  3. HOTEL MAGNIFIQUE by Emily J Taylor {e-ARC}

Look, I know I’ve been saying Hotel Magnifique for 3 months now, but I had such a high hopes I’m actually scared to pick up the book! ๐Ÿ˜…

Okay so the new place has been great so far! I think the change of the scenery and routine really boost my mood this month- really hope it will last!

In terms of work, I love how it reminds me of uni since it’s mostly data and paper writing. I am wrapping up a project and about to start a new one, so wish me luck on the starting one! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ€ It also makes me learn more about the aspects of science I like, as well as possible future. I should not get ahead of myself but so far it’s really helpful.

I also really enjoyed my routine: wake up, go to work, go home, do small exercises, and then go to my chinese lessons or read or watch something. And on the weekends, it’s either I stayed home to clean or I went trekking with my friend’s church. While it’s been SO LONG since the last time I went trekking (like, in my childhood??) and I was so winded, the view was worth it and I made a lot of new friends! I admit the last one was brutal- the route wasn’t as uphill as the previous ones, but there were so many stairs my legs were sore for days ๐Ÿ˜ญ

When I’m not reading, I usually watch stuff at night. I mostly watch youtube (endless k-pop, booktube, and lifestyle contents to watch) but I’m also currently watching Flavorful Origins on Netflix. It’s a show around 10 mins long each episode, highlighting chinese cuisine from their ingredients to how it’s cook and it’s mouthwateringly stunning! When I’m not doing either of them, I’m usually on calls with my friends and family. I’d say I’m settling really well into the routine, I’m really happy it actually scares me ๐Ÿ˜…

In terms of music, it’s been surprisingly not dominated by k-pop! I think it’s been a while, I don’t think I’ve ever had month like this since 2020? I’ve been listening to a lot of throwback music such as Taylor Swift and The Maine, it makes me really feel nostalgic ๐Ÿฅบ In terms of K-pop, NCT Dream just had a comeback at the end of March and my favorite song is Arcade so it’s been on my April playlist a lot. I’m glad they decided to promote with Arcade too, I think it’s also a fan favorite with how catchy and how beautiful Chenle, Haechan and Renjun’s “์ˆœ์‹๊ฐ„์— Game over” part were. I also went through TXT and Seventeen’s discography and found some songs I really like from them.

May though… May is a VERY exciting month for me because it’s my first SEVENTEEN and TXT comeback but also… GOT7 COMEBACK! I got teary eyed when I heard the news because it’s been so long and I’m so happy to have them back ๐Ÿ˜ญ Bam and the others (mostly Bambam lol) has been teasing but now everyone is in SK and rumors are out, it feels real, you know? Anyways if you guys follow me on twitter, I apologized for the spam when the announcement was released and I also apologize in advice for the state of my account when the teasers start to drop, the countdown begins, and the comeback is officially here ๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well I’m also happy to report that I got my blogging motivation in April! I did some individual reviews, wrote a Screen Rambles post, and even got back to Top 5 Wednesday!

How was April to you?
