May Wrap Up & June 2022 TBR // A month of holidays

As we grow older it seems like time just keeps moving faster and faster, but 2022 really take the cake. I can’t believe May is over and we’re about to step into June soon ಥ_ಥ I’ve been enjoying 2022 so far but I’m still not keen of time slipping through our fingers and would rather having it slow down a little…

  1. SO THIS IS EVER AFTER by F.T Lukens 🎧 // 🌟🌟🌟.5
  2. I HEAR THE SUNSPOT by Yuki Fumino // 🌟🌟🌟🌟
  3. HOTEL MAGNIFIQUE by Emily J. Taylor {e-ARC} // 🌟🌟.2
  4. AN ENCORE OF ROSES by ST Gibson // 🌟🌟🌟🌟
  5. MOONGLASS by Jessi Kirby // 🌟🌟🌟.5
  6. GO HUNT ME by Kelly deVos {e-ARC} // 🌟🌟🌟.5

I managed to read quite a lot in May! I finished So This Is Ever After and it cemented FT Lukens as an auto-read author for me, I just love the light fantasy and fun vibe the books have! Then I decided to pick up something quieter with I Hear the Sunspot, which exceeded my expectations. It made me realized how much I missed reading manga and I can’t wait to read the sequels. I also picked up Hotel Magnifique, one of my most anticipated releases, but sadly it didn’t really live up to my expectations 😔

I found out that there’s a sequel novella for A Dowry of Blood, An Encore of Roses, so I immediately picked it up! I loved every minute of it and it makes me excited for the full length sequel! I also read Moonglass, wanting to read something light and summery after watching the trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty and Along for the Ride. It held surprisingly well 11 years later and I can see these types of books being my comfort books in the future. And finally, I just finished Go Hunt Me as part of the book tour. It was a great and fast paced thriller book but unfortunately, it lacks depth and compelling characters.

  2. THE SIREN QUEEN by Nghi Vo {e-ARC}
  3. DARK WATERS by Katherine Arden

A very summer-y TBR for June! After watching the trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty, I have been in the mood for that 2010s summer contemporary so I decided I should pick this book up. I’ve read so many things about Belly so knowing that, hopefully I can enjoy the book 😅 Then I still need to read my overdue eARC of Siren Queen as well as Dark Waters before the final book in the series released in September.

May has been a great month so far! We had a week-long national holiday for Eid after 2 weeks of no mudik (tradition of returning to hometown to celebrate Eid) and everyone was certainly overjoyed! As with everyone else, I also went back to my hometown with the added advantage of me going against the current (everyone went out from Jakarta, I’m going back to Jakarta and vice versa). The trip was great, and the time I spent at home truly felt like a holiday as no one was working so I could went out with my family a lot. I genuinely feel sad when the holiday ends and now understand why mudik is such a beloved tradition here 😊

We also have been having a lot of national holidays this month, like once a week at least? We had Vesak, ascension of Jesus, as well as Pancasila day tomorrow so yeah, it’s been great!

I am also still riding a high of seeing a lot of media- other than reading, I’ve been listening to a lot of music and watches a lot of things. I finished 2 k-drama this month, the first one being Bad and Crazy starring Lee Dongwook and the second one is Tomorrow starring Rowoon. I highly recommend both of them; Bad and Crazy is so fast paced and thrilling while Tomorrow is more somber with compelling stories. I’ll review them soon but if you decide to check out Tomorrow, please be aware that it deals with suicide and has a lot of trigger warnings.

Tomorrow also has a really good romance as secondary plotline which contains angst, yearning, and a whole lot other tropes that I love so the last days of the month for me is filled with Tomorrow brain rot 😭

There has been a lot of great music in May too! Of course we have the This Love (Taylor’s version) that has been haunting my dreams; it really adds the hype fo 1989 Taylor’s version and I hope it will be released soon!!! Then iKON had a comeback on early May and the title track, But You, was an instant favorite from the moment I listened to it! It’s just so upbeat with its synth sound.

Then of course we have the long awaited GOT7 comeback- even now it still feel surreal that I got to see them as seven on stage together having fun again??? And interviews?? And just overall… together? 😭😭😭 The title track, Na Na Na is really fun and bright, I can’t stop watching the video! The rest of the songs released truly have the members’ colors, especially Yugyeom’s Two (which is my favorite). I love them so much and sad the promotion ending so quickly, but at the same time, I’m happy that they’re back together and happier. Like this comeback, without the usual promotion cycle, was truly for the fans and it’s also clear that us ahgases really appreciate the love 🥺💚

Finally, we have Seventeen comeback! My first comeback as a carat and they also bring the darkteen concept that I love the most. And they didn’t disappoint! Darling was really catchy yeah, but the transition from Darling to HOT was amazing! It was a no skip album, I love each songs especially DON QUIXOTE! The amount of time I’ve listened to the album since its release is insane.

  1. hehe thank you for including me in your wrap up! i absolutely enjoyed writing that list after debating whether or not for so long. i just started watching tomorrow and have teared up every episode since the first case. 😭 hope you will enjoy siren queen by nghi vo. it was an interesting book

  2. I hope you enjoy The Summer I Turned Pretty! That book was a pivotal moment in me picking up YA for the first time. Yes, it’s a little cheesy, but I think it’s very nostalgic and incredibly easy to get into. I’ve also heard great things from F.T Lukens books! I’ll have to pick a few of them up.

  3. Ohhh I’m very curious to hear your thoughts on The Summer I Turned Pretty, I hope you’ll enjoy it! I have fond memories of the series, but then again… I read it such a long time ago, I have no idea how I’d feel about it now ahah. I hope you’ll have a fantastic month! ❤

  4. I want to read Siren Queen so bad. I hope you get a chance to pick it up this month. I’m so glad you enjoyed Tomorrow. It’s on my watch list and I am kind of a sucker for angsty, yearning romance, so it’s going to the top. I hope you have a lovely June!
